I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the difference between Releases and Launches.
To me, this email from Gumroad helps illustrate the difference.
It’s a customer email highlighting a number of releases. A typical “here’s what we launched last month” sort of email.
As a customer, I appreciate getting these emails and seeing everything new in the platform.
But this messaging is clearly not meant to attract new users, or activate new users that are on still on the fence.
A question to consider with emails like this: Could they somehow role up to a broader theme? Something that would carry more impact than just “new features?”
The one thing I will say about this email — “TONS of new Gumroad features” does make me feel like they are shipping a lot of stuff. Like Gumroad is actually listening to user feedback.
Compared to most monthly feature roundup emails, it at least has that theme.
